Our story ... We admit it. We ran away and got married. It was a second marriage for both of us, and we were going to Kona, Hawaii to race outrigger canoes. We decided on the spur of the moment to get married while we were there, and invited the women Kathie had coached that year to share our day with us. So we get destination weddings. While raised in California, both of us are mountain people at heart. When we began our search for our forever home, we quickly settled on Steamboat Springs. After two years of searching, the perfect property came up and we bought it. While we still divide our time between California and Colorado, La Joya Dulce owns our hearts and we would love to share it with you for your ranch wedding in Steamboat Springs. Wayne is an attorney with O'Melveny & Myers, LLC. He is an avid biker and can share all the best places to bike in Steamboat. Wayne met Kathie when he was training for the Paris - Brest - Paris ride. As a lymphoma survivor, it was important to him to return to health, and he completed that ride in just over 86 hours (straight through). Kathie introduced him to outrigger canoe paddling, and in 2016, he paddled on the US Champion Masters Coed crew that set the course record for the 32 mile race from Catalina to Newport Beach. In addition to running the ranch business in Steamboat, Kathie is a learning and development consultant. She has traveled world wide to develop training and documentation programs for her clients. An accomplished outrigger steersman and paddler, she divides her time between "paddles and saddles," as she is also an accomplished equestrian with her American Saddlebred horses. She is the recipient of the United States Equestrian Federation Pegasus Award as Humanitarian of the Year and has appeared at the World Equestrian Games as well as in the Rose Parade and our own Steamboat Springs 4th of July parade. Our own destination wedding was perfect for us. Let us help you make your ranch wedding in Steamboat Springs perfect for you, at La Joya Dulce.
